God has a Plan A for your life. And there is no Plan B.
What is it?
I was reminded of what this plan was the other day from the book of Thessalonians. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13, we find a startling verse from Paul: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification . . .”
What’s God’s Plan A for your life? Your sanctification.
The word “sanctification” has been under much debate recently in the church. This debate is less about the actual definition, and more about the ramifications behind how it is actually lived out in the Christian life. I think a helpful definition, however, can be found in Wayne Grudem’s book, Doctrine. According to Grudem, sanctification is “A progressive work of God and man that makes us more and more free from sin and like Christ in our actual lives.”
What’s God’s Plan A for your life? Your sanctification.
I’m not here to discuss God’s secret will for your life. That’s because I don’t know what it is. As I’ve written before, the will of God for your life in terms of every exact detail has been decreed by God, but that’s none of our business. But what we can discuss is God’s will of freeing us from sin, and making us more like Jesus. We can discuss our sanctification.
If you’re a Type A person like me, you can become overly concerned about your personal accomplishments. But the truth is, who we’re becoming is more important than what we’re accomplishing.
God is in the business of making his children like his Son. We don’t know all the details of tomorrow, but we do know along the way that sanctification will happen to God’s chosen ones, that he will indeed make us more like Jesus. It is, after all, God’s Plan A for our life.
