“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
1. We Know: We don’t guess. We don’t speculate. We don’t wonder. We don’t debate. For those who love God, we know this verse is true.
2. For Those Who Love God: This verse is not applicable to non-Christians; only for those who love God. God doesn’t work all things out for good for those who do not love him.
3. For Good: God doesn’t work all things out for our comfort, pleasure, preference, or security, but for our good.
However, to me, Romans 8:28 doesn’t make sense without Romans 8:29.
“For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son (Jesus). . .” – Romans 8:29
The purpose of God working all things out for good in our lives is to conform us more and more into the image of Jesus Christ. Thus, for those who love God, no matter what we may face in life — whether success or suffering — we can trust that God has perfectly decreed every event we face in our lives from eternity past to happen all for our good, his glory, and to make us more like Jesus.
