Will You Prayerfully Consider Supporting Me During My First Year of Seminary?

I hardly ever post personal information on my blog. But today, I am. That’s because I’d like to invite you into what God is doing in my life and also give you an opportunity to join in.

(Skip the rest and watch the video now)

Here’s the scoop: This fall I’ll be enrolling at Covenant Theological Seminary to pursue my Master of Divinity Degree – a three-year program at one of the top seminaries in the world. Pastoral ministry is a calling, not a career, and I have felt called to be in ministry for several years.

CTS

The good news?

I was awarded a scholarship that covers 100% of tuition. The scholarship is called the Strategic Church Development Award – an award given out sparingly every year to a few minority students who are called to pastoral ministry. The award is only given after many interviews, assessments, and a five-page essay that describes my calling.

It was almost a two-year process and . . . I can’t believe it, but they picked me.

The first day of class is August 22nd.  I’ll spend 40+ hours a week studying, in classes, and interacting with professors and students alike, trying to increase my competency and get training, all-the-while staying 100% committed to the local church. While I can work part-time, it is strongly recommended not to work the first year.

So how will I pay my living expenses?

I’m developing a team of friends who would be willing to support me through prayer or financial giving. So here’s what I’d like to ask you: Will you prayerfully consider financially supporting me during my first year of Seminary?

I’m only raising financial support for one year. I’m looking to raise at least $1,500 a month. The finances are primarily for my living expenses (rent, utilities, groceries, etc.)

Most Seminarians raise support for three or four years, but I feel compelled to ask for only one year. After August of 2017, I will no longer raise support. So that means I’ll be raising financial support from August, 2016 – August, 2017.

It’s worth noting my calling once again because I want to emphasize God’s work in my life. He chose me, not the other way around. And I want you to partner with me not just because I ask, but so that you can participate in what God is doing. After all, I’m going to Seminary to better serve the church – to better serve people like you.

Maybe you give $25, $50, or $100 a month. Or maybe you just give a one-time payment.

No amount is insignificant. And please don’t feel pressured into giving. I welcome your friendship as a prayer partner during this season of my life, regardless of whether you give financially.
